Cottrell ready for SU visit

Syracuse has not made to many big pickups in recruiting when they go into Texas. Even though the numbers are not in their favor they are again in the Lone Star State looking for talent. One of the players they are after is Plano (Texas) West linebacker Bryce Cottrell.

Cottrell, 6-foot-4, 225 pounds has had the Syracuse offer for a couple of months now and he is excited about the offer.

"They offered me a couple months ago. I was like WOW! They are a good program and they offer me the opportunity to go to that school," Cottrell said. "They have a great history at that school and with the tradition you can't go wrong by going there."

This weekend Cottrell will finally make a visit to Syracuse. Despite this being his first trip to Syracuse he already knows a lot about the school thanks in part to one the latest Orange stars to come from Texas.

"I am pretty excited about the visit because I am going there this weekend with my mom and brother. My cousin Wesley Johnson, he went there. From what he has told me it is a very good University, so I am going to go and see if what he says is true."

On the visit this weekend the Texas product will have a couple things on his mind as he walks around the campus.

"I am going to look and see if I can fit in there and if it is the right place for me."

The Orange have put Jimmy Brumbaugh n charge of Cottrell and the Orange defensive line coach has made a good impression on Bryce as well as his mother.

"Coach Jimmy Brumbaugh is recruiting me. Our relationship is good and we have talked on several occasions. He has talked to my mom and they have had a chance to get to know each other it's going well."

This is starting to become a busy spring for Cottrell as he has already visited a Pac-10 school and he plans to take another set of visits after this weekend.

"I went to Arizona State I am also going to USC for sure, Oregon, and possibly Michigan. Those schools have not offered yet, but it is a possibility."

With the recruiting process still being new to Cottrell he is not going to rush into any decisions.

"I will commit sometime next year probably sometime during the season."

Despite missing three games last season Cottrell still had a great season with 80 tackles and seven sacks.
