DT, Hopkins pulls in Army offer

The 2011 Army recruiting class saw the Black Knights' staff pull in 6-foot-3, 295 defensive tackle Tyrone Brown. However, there is still much recruiting work to be done to ensure that there is quality interior defensive line talent in the pipeline.

The 2012 class has seen several solid defensive tackles hit the Army radar, with Donald Hopkins registering the first offer from the Black Knights at that position.

"Army has offered me, along with UTSA, Wake Forest, SMU and Wyoming," shares the prospect from Lago Vista (Tx) Lago Vista High School.

"Army offered me last week when Coach Mumford came to visit my school and a couple days after that he offered me. He has been telling me about the school (West Point), the academics and how it's a great school. He said he wants me to come up there and check it out."

So what is Hopkins level of interest in the Black Knights?

"It's pretty high," he says, as he elaborates on his recruiting strategy. "I take every offer as the same and wait it out and see, but they are pretty high up there.

At 6-foot-2, 275 pounds, Hopkins considers himself a throwback kind of player. "I'm a hard nose, get off the ball player …very physical. I really like Nick Farley out of Auburn … he's a beast and that's how I want my game to be."

So what is Hopkins looking for in a school? "Well, location is key," he declares. "Not distance, but how and where the campus is located. Also, the graduation rate and academic support, the coaches … especially my position coach … we have to get along." will continue to follow Hopkins' recruiting and 2011 senior football season, so keep it here.
