Spring Review: Running Backs
With spring practice in the books, Gopher fans are already itching for fall to come with a new college football season. GopherIllustrated.com continues its look back at the spring by discussing what fans can expect from the running backs. Led by experienced senior Duane Bennett, fans can expect to see several players getting touches this season.
The running back spot has been one that frustrated fans throughout the Tim Brewster era. While there have been some decent backs, the team has never been able to find one great running back that demands twenty or more touches every game. Although a top-end feature back continues to elude the Gophers, this season should bring the most overall talent the Gophers have had in several seasons.
As was the case last year, there will be a lot of rotating among the backs, but this season there are more quality options for the coaching staff to choose from. Leading the group is senior Duane Bennett. Bennett has really stepped into a leadership role this spring. He, along with MarQueis Gray, will be the vocal leaders of the offensive unit.
