More in common than just football

Gainesville (Fla.) linebacker Tashon Whitehurst is a newcomer to the recruiting world right now, but his offer list is growing. One of those recent offers came from Syracuse and both the prospect and school have more in common than just football.

"Syracuse offered me about 3 weeks ago. I was surprised to get an offer from Syracuse because my family is from there. My family lives in Syracuse and Utica.

Needless to say the 6-foot-3, 187 pound linebacker was excited as well as his family.

"My dad was excited he got to talk to a couple of the coaches and was also surprised about the offer from where his mother recently moved."

Besides the family aspect of the situation what else does the Sunshine State product like about the Orange?

"I like the coaching staff on defense and the head coach. I haven't got the chance to visit Syracuse for the first time yet."

That visit however should come very soon.

"It is in my plans to visit Syracuse, The plan is to try and get up there in the summer."

The interest rose for the Orange as they watched Whitehurst play during the spring.

"We had talked before the offer and I stayed in contact with them since they can't call me and before my spring game the coaches loved what they sawand offered me

Jimmy Brumbaugh is the Orange coach in charge of recruiting Whitehurst.

"Coach Brumbaugh is talking to me and coach really likes me and we talk a lot about school, football, and social life."

With a lot going right for the Orange in the early recruitment of Whitehurst the prospect talked about the first thing that pops in his head when he thinks about Syracuse.

"I think that Syracuse is a good program and plays big time teams and can work with someone like me."

A decision for Whitehurst could come at anytime if he finds the right fit for himself.

"I might make a decision after or before the summer."

After Syracuse offered North Carolina State and Marshall followed with offers.
