Army vs. San Diego State: The Crystal Ball

After a disappointing lose to Northern Illinois, The Army Black Knights will register their first win of the 2011 season as they host the Aztecs of San Diego State this Saturday at 12pm.

Well it's time again for writers A.M. Allan and Bobby Caldwell to look into the future and make their predictions about Saturday's game.

Who will score the first touchdown for Army?
A.M.: I am going to go out on the limb with this one. Unlike the NIU game, Army's first series will result in a long drive and inside the red zone, a well executed play action fake that allows for QB Trent Steelman to hit a wide open Anthony Stephens .

Bobby: With fullback Jared Hassin's availability a game time decision, I am going to have to say that Larry Dixon will not only score the first TD of the game, but will log in two on the afternoon.

How much of an impact will the Michie Stadium crowd have on the Black Knights?
A.M.: I will that initially it will both relax and uplift the team. However, the long term effect will be determined on how well Army plays in the first quarter of the game. If competitive, the projected packed house will behind the team, but if not, there could be a silence from the crowd.

Bobby: I don't anticipate the crowd having that big of an impact on either team. SDSU is a seasoned team and playing in the Michie Stadium environment which is not overly hostile at its peak moments should be transparent to the visitors.

Who will have the biggest hit of the game?
A.M.: Steve Erzinger will get my nod here.

Bobby: Steve Erzinger on a blitz that results in a sack.

Which true freshman will have the biggest impact?
A.M.: Slotback Trenton Turrentine will pick up where he left off, especially with Malcolm Brown a game time decision.

Bobby: Can't argue with the Turrentine selection, but I am looking for fullback Larry Dixon to turn heads on Saturday.

Who will get the first quarterback sack?
A.M.: Linebacker Steve Erzinger gets my vote once again.

Bobby: I can see Reggie Nesbit being very active against SDSU, so I am going with the sophomore linebacker.

Who will get the first INT?
A.M.: Cornerback Josh Jackson is a primetime kind of player and he will have plenty of opportunity to step in front of one on Saturday.

Bobby: I think free safety Tyler Dickson will pick up his 2nd INT on the young season.

Will the Army offense come out flat?
A.M.: If the "O" comes out flat to start the game, this could a very long season. That being said, my answer is a "flat out", NO!

Bobby: Offensive coordinator Ian Shields and the vets on the offense will have everyone ready to go and with a solid game plan, I see the "O" taking care of business on Saturday.

Which offensive player will have the biggest game for Army? A.M.: It will be Trent Steelman and not just in the stats sheet, but his leadership will shine

Bobby: I will to the course and say freshman fullback, Larry Dixon.

Which defensive player will have the biggest game for Army? A.M.: Erzinger will pick up where he left off against NIU.

Bobby: Steve Erzinger will be force against the Aztecs as he was versus NIU.

Who will have the biggest impact on special teams?
A.M.: Last week I predicted that Josh Jackson would break a punt return against NIU. Well unfortunately, NIU only punted once, so look for Jackson to take advantage of any opportunities he receives against SDSU.

Bobby: In a close game, it could come down to kicker Alex Carlton... he gets my vote.
