State in good standing with Jelks

Henry County (Tenn.) three-star offensive tackle Andrew Jelks took advantage of an off week to travel to Mississippi State this past weekend.

The 6-foot-6, 260-pounder took in the Bulldogs SEC matchup with South Carolina and left with an even more favorable impression of Starkville.

"It was a great weekend," Jelks said. "I got to get back down there and be around the coaches and the players. There was a great atmosphere at the game to play SEC football in. I just enjoyed being down there. I talked with Coach (Dan) Mullen a little bit and Coach (John) Hevesy. They had some good stuff to tell me and it was just a great weekend to go up there and get to know Mississippi State a little bit better."

Jelks made his first visit to the MSU campus over the summer and the Bulldogs have been high on his list ever since.

"I've really liked Mississippi State since my first visit this summer," Jelks said. "When I went there it was eye-opening to me. I really didn't know what to expect. They're just a great program. Going down there to watch a game, I just like them more and more every time I'm down there."

Even though State fell 14-12 to the Gamecocks on Saturday, Jelks was able to see plenty of positives.
