Griffith impressed by Tide's kicking game
The University of Alabama kicked five field goals in its 21-0 victory over LSU on Monday night. Perhaps no Crimson Tide commit enjoyed the victory quite as much as Calhoun, Ga., kicker Adam Griffith.
"It was crazy," Griffith said. "I was just excited for them."
After a disappointing performance by the Alabama kickers in the first meeting between the Tide and the Tigers in Tuscaloosa, Griffith was happy to see UA kicker Jeremy Shelley bounce back to make a bowl record-tying five field goals in the championship game.
"I think he did great, and I'm happy for him," Griffith said. "I was happy that kickers were able to do something in this game, so I was pulling for the kickers and everybody."
Griffith also said he was impressed with the confidence the Alabama coaches had in their kickers despite what happened in the first game.
"It shows me a lot that I made the right choice with Alabama," Griffith said. "Obviously, they trust the kickers even though they had one bad performance. I'm just happy coach (Nick) Saban, and everybody showed trust."
Every kicker grows up dreaming of a chance to be in the spotlight during a key moment, and Griffith is no different. The Rivals.com three-star, who's the ranked as the nation's No. 2 kicker, said hopes to get that opportunity when he gets to Tuscaloosa.
"I mean, I think every kicker would dream of an opportunity of helping the team in the national championship game," Griffith said. "I would be happy to help the team in the future. That would just be great."
Griffith has made clutch kicks before, including a game-winning field for Calhoun in the state championship game this season. Now, he's ready to use that poise and take that success to the next level.
"I'm happy to go to Alabama," Griffith said. "I always wanted to go to Alabama. In high school it was an honor to play for the winning team, and now to go the next level and play for the winning team feels good."
