Moultrie propels MSU over Tigers
STARKVILLE, Miss., - Arnett Moultrie gave No. 16 Mississippi State 28 points and 12 rebounds.
And the Bulldogs needed every one of them.
MSU survived a late scare at home by LSU 76-71 overcoming a late barrage of 3-pointers from the Tigers.
The Bulldogs had a nine point lead with 1:50 to play in the game but LSU buried three 3-pointers during that stretch. State was able to counter with 8-of-10 from the free throw line to improve to 17-4 overall and 4-2 in conference play.
"LSU is the most improved team in the league," said MSU head coach Rick Stansbury. "We did not have our edge tonight, but you are not going to have your edge every night. You have to survive even when you do not have the edge. We out rebounded LSU 46-26. LSU leads the league in offensive rebounds, so that is the stat that saved us. This was one of those games that you just have to find a way out."
Mississippi State shot 43.6-percent from the floor.
Moultrie was 10-of-18 shooting and notched his SEC leading 12th double-double of the year. His 28 points tied a career-high.
