V-Cast: Dawson gone with ACL injury, now what?

EAST LANSING - Michigan State led Ohio State 24-9 when freshman Branden Dawson left the game with a knee injury during the first half of the Spartans' Big Ten finale with the Buckeyes.

With Dawson on the floor, Michigan State may have been playing its best basketball of the 2011-2012 season. The Spartans were not the same following the injury.

Now Michigan State must now prepare for the postseason reality of playing without Dawson, following the determination by Spartan medical staff that the former McDonald's All-American suffered an ACL injury against the Buckeyes.

With Dawson on the floor, Michigan State would have had a more realistic chance at making a deep run in the NCAA tournament and may have even been one of the favorites to reach the Final Four. Losing Dawson is a serious setback for Michigan State.

The Spartans' ability to make a run in the NCAA tournament in 2011 will depend on favorable match-ups and Tom Izzo's ability to outcoach Michigan State's postseason opponents.

A strong postseason by freshmen Brandan Kearney and Travis Trice will be key factors in the remaining games for Michigan State.
