PSU 43, U-M 40 (4OT): Notes, quotes & observations

Call it a gutsy comeback, even against a bad football team. The way Michigan played in the second half, too, should have been good enough to avoid overtime in an eventual 43-40, four-OT loss at Penn State.

It wasn't. And that's where the compliments end and the reality sets in:

Michigan isn't a very good football team, and the challenging part of the schedule really hasn't even begun.

The Wolverines were playing the environment (and themselves again on offense in the first half turning it over three more times) as much as Penn State Saturday night. They lost the first half to both, falling behind 21-10 on two gift wrapped touchdowns on short drives following interceptions, and - once again - a failure to do anything on the ground.
