Stokes down to two

Corey Stokes said Sunday evening that he has narrowed his list to UConn and Villanova and that Rutgers is now out of the running for his services.


That is especially good news for the Huskies, who have the 6-foot-5, 210-pound shooting guard from Newark (N.J.) St. Benedict's pegged as one of their top targets in the 2007 class.


Stokes, rated the No. 27 player in the Rivals.com Top 100 of 2007, is a phenomenal outside shooter who averaged about 13 points, 11 rebounds and five assists this past season on a team coached by Dan Hurley that was loaded with talented Division I prospects like Lance Thomas, Eugene Harvey and 2008 prospect Samardo Samuels, who is also receiving early interest from UConn.


"I haven't made a decision yet, but I would say it's definitely down to them (UConn) and Villanova," Stokes said.
