Bruton weighs on coaches' minds

The culinary routine never changes. But David Bruton won't argue with the results.

Each night the Irish safety tries to down a shake before bed, capping a day of three or four meals combined with constant snacking. That's a fast track to Weight Watchers for most, but the diet was Notre Dame prescribed by strength and conditioning coach Ruben Mendoza.

After enrolling last summer with the look of a player lacking a map to the weight room, Bruton has packed major muscle on his still lanky 6-foot-2 frame. The Miamisburg, Ohio product opened his Irish career at 175 pounds but said he's since bulked up to 196. The updated Irish roster lists Bruton at 192.
