The junior, who transferred from southern Maryland's Thomas Stone High School to Washington Catholic Athletic Conference member St. Mary's Ryken, is now becoming more than a regional phenomenon, and the Hoyas amongst a boatload of others have shown interest.
After a successful sophomore season at Stone, John enrolled at Ryken this past year. When asked what precipitated the move, John indicated the desire to "play against better comp, get more exposure, and prepare for college" guided the decision, and concluded "I probably wouldn't have developed as much as I did" if he stayed at Stone. In the final analysis, he labeled the transfer "One of the best decisions I ever made".
Ryken's coach, Dan Sancomb, immediately recognized Flower's impact when the young man was able to play after an eight game inactive period, necessitated by WCAC transfer rules. "We played seven games with out John, all non-conference" he said. "When we had John, we were a totally different team".
