Blooming Flowers commits to WVU

It's good to have connections. Two Wheeling Jesuit alumni hooked up about a rising junior prospect last fall, and the young man, John Flowers, committed to West Virginia's basketball program Thursday night, according to one-half of the Jesuit duo.


"He committed last night," Leonardtown (Md.) St. Mary's Ryken High School coach Danny Sancomb told West Virginia Sports Dot Com today. "He was up (in Morgantown) Wednesday, he had the opportunity to meet the guys; he felt comfortable with the guys. The following day he visited Virginia Tech."


Flowers, a 6-foot-7, 195-pound combo forward commitment, was unavailable at 12:30 p.m. today. Rest assured you will be hearing from him.


By all accounts, Flowers, "who has the wingspan of a 7-footer," according to his coach, is about where Huntington High School junior forward Patrick Patterson was this time a year ago. Patterson, who has also been offered by the West Virginia staff, was a regional recruit since his sophomore year, but is being recruited on a national level as he tours the country with the Boo Williams AAU team.
