Louisiana tight end could pick up Clemson offer

Tuesday night, 6-foot-5, 227-pound tight end - defensive end Frank Alexander listed Clemson as one of his early favorites.

On Monday Alexander picked up his first offer, a full ride from Southern Mississippi.

The Baton Rouge, La., Southern Lab standout said Auburn, Clemson, LSU, Miami and Virginia Tech are also close to offering.

Alexander stars as a tight end and as a defensive end for Southern Lab, while also getting in plenty of work on the hardwood.

"I was a first-team all-district pick in football last year. I thought I had a pretty good year," Alexander said. "I had over 30 tackles and 12 or 13 sacks. I just get to the quarterback. I have a lot of moves in my pass-rush (technique) that I use, and I'm comfortable with all of them."

Alexander said entering the month of May he's zeroing in on a handful of schools, six in particular.

"I talked to some LSU coaches yesterday, coach (Jimbo) Fisher," he said. "I talked with coach (Burton) Burns at Clemson, and he said they needed tight ends. They're going to be changing around their offense. LSU, Florida State, Clemson, Miami, Auburn and I think UCLA would be the schools I'd put in my top six tonight."

Alexander will camp at LSU this summer. He could also be an early decision-maker, though he would like to take some official visits.

The Baton Rouge product, carrying a 3.4 GPA, said college coaches have begun to pay some attention to him as a tight end because of his ability to catch the ball and leap over smaller, inferior defenders.

Alexander holds a 315-pound bench press max with a 430-pound squat max.
