Spring DB review: Concern at cornerback

A problem area pointed to by coaches this spring: Cornerback.

Although Glenn Sharpe, who is coming off a knee injury, didn't compete in scrimmages, this group was beaten for some big gains by receivers.

With Sharpe out, Carlos Armour and Randy Phillips were the first-teamers.

There is depth here with Bruce Johnson, who played last year as a true freshman.

At safety, the team missed Brandon Meriweather, who had shoulder surgery midway through spring drills but will be fine for summer work. And Anthony Reddick, coming off knee surgery, was limited in drills but should be 100 percent in the fall. Because of the injuries, Lovon Ponder got some first team work opposite Kenny Phillips.

Read on for a full analysis of the work done here this spring.
