Brenham 2008 class has potential
The Brenham Cubs will field Division I talent at quarterback, running back, receiver, tight end, offensive tackle, linebacker, cornerback and free safety next season. While the 2007 senior class is loaded with skill talent, the 2008 class brings a nice blend to give the Cubs 11 Division I prospects in the classes combined.
Quite possibly the best athlete in the Brenham program is 2008 two sport star Lester Ward. Ward, who recently placed third in the 4A 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.17, is a tall, rangy athlete that can play a number of positions. The 6-foot-3, 192-pound sophomore is the son of former Temple High, Baylor Bear and Dallas Cowboy Lester Ward Sr. Ward missed most of his sophomore season with a hip injury, but will be looked upon as a key member of the 2006-07 Brenham team.
Even though Ward has yet to play significant minutes on varsity, he is already drawing the eye of division coaches when they stop at Brenham High. Ward already has a list of favorites.
"I'm looking at Baylor, Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma and South Carolina," he said.
