McGaskin hopes to officially visit WVU

After knocking around the deep South going to combines and camps through the spring and summer, Mobile (Ala.) B.C. Rain strong safety Elliott McGaskin knows where he wants to come this winter.

"My first (official) trip, I want to go to West Virginia. I think they're a really good school. I want to see the campus and get to know the coaches, Coach Rick Trickett and Pat White," McGaskin said unprompted Monday afternoon.

McGaskins' interest in the WVU football program started back in middle school when a high-school quarterback named White was throwing footballs and running around ends at nearby Daphne High.

The affair with the Mountaineers continued when WVU line coach/Alabama recruiter Trickett visited both McGaskin and highly prized Ryan Williams this spring and offered both, according to McGaskin.

Williams, a 5-foot-11, 185-pound corner, has been offered by both Alabama and Auburn, but McGaskin may be looking elsewhere to play his college football beginning in 2007.

McGaskin was visiting Clemson Sunday, but has been offered by the Mountaineers, Purdue, Ole Miss, South Carolina and South Florida thus far.
