Top power forward plans visit to UK

Four-star Saginaw (Mich.) power forward Joshua Southern says he's in the process of narrowing his list of schools, and Kentucky will be one of his top choices.

"Kentucky has recruited me for a long time," he said. "They call me at least once a month and talk to my coach a lot. Coach (Tubby) Smith has become really involved. He says he'd love to have me down there, that they really need help in the post.

"I'm hoping to set up an official visit with them soon. I think I'll go down there sometime in September when football is playing so I can see what the fans and the atmosphere is like. I'd like to see a good SEC game while I'm there."

Southern fits the mold of the bruising power forward that has eluded UK in recent signing classes. The 6-foot-9, 240-pounder averaged approximately 16 points and 16 rebounds as a junior. He is rated among the top 100 prospects for 2007 by Rivals.com.
