Let's Go Camping

This past weekend marked the opening of the July evaluation period for college coaches. This is one of the biggest weekends for prospective players because the big three show invitational camps were held this past weekend.

Rivals.com was there to cover the action at all three camps. Take a look below to find out what players Coach Cronin had his eye on and how they performed against the best players from all around the country.

Yancy Gates 2008 - He had some nice post moves, hit a mid-range jumper or two and has some stretches where he looked great. But part of the time he looked uninterested and a little bit out of shape. His energy level wasn't always there but he has a great frame and could be very good.

Xavier Gibson 2008 - showed flashes of why he is one of the top recruits in the country. He is a little stiff athletically, but he could become a better athlete as he grows into his body and matures.

At 6-foot-10 he is more of a face up four man than a true center. He doesn't like to bang down low, but he is more than capable of knocking down the 15 foot jumper.

Nate Miles2008 - We think he looks and plays like Rip Hamilton. He says he looks and plays like Francisco Garcia. Whoever the player, Miles is a guy that is long, athletic and a smooth shooter like the two pros. After missing a good part of the spring AAU session, Miles has picked his moments to shine at the camp. He said he has plenty more in the tank and is looking forward to the Peach Jam next week when he suits up for Team Texas.

James Johnson2007It was a stellar week for the 6-foot-7 combo forward and he didn't disappoint in the up and down, no defense all star setting. Johnson put in an athletic 16 points but went to work on the glass, snatching 10 rebounds. He came to the camp with interest. He'll wake up on Monday with offers as he is a star on the rise.
