Arkansas athlete plans to pull trigger soon
For one Arkansas athlete a decision could be near. After a busy summer Marion athlete Jerry Franklin has narrowed his choices to two schools, he hoping a decision may come as soon as next week after one more unofficial visit this upcoming weekend.
Franklin's lone offer is from Ole Miss and the talented defender will take an unofficial visit to Arkansas this weekend and participate in the Hogs camp this Saturday.
"I'm going to Arkansas so I can have something to compare Ole Miss to," Franklin said Sunday night. "I love Ole Miss they are the first to offer me and have been recruiting me hard from day one. Before making a decision I want to see another school so I can be sure I'm making the right choice."
When asked if Arkansas would be a lock for his services if the Razorbacks were to offer, Franklin was quick to respond.
"No, right now Ole Miss is my favorite," Franklin said. "I love everything about Ole Miss, it's a perfect place for me. It's close to home and the campus and facilities are the best I have ever seen."
According to Franklin, Marion is only about five to 10 miles from Memphis, making Oxford a perfect location for him.
"I might make a decision as soon as my trip to Arkansas is over," Franklin said. "I had a great camp at Ole Miss, I really like the coaches. Coach (Hugh) Freeze has been great, he is really easy to talk to and he seems to really care about me and is always asking how my folks are."
Franklin plays both wide receiver and defensive back for his Class 6A Marion High School team, but says that Ole Miss is recruiting him to play safety.
Franklin has grown some over the summer as well.
"You have me listed as 6-foot-2, 195 pounds, I have put on 15 pounds of muscle over the spring and summer," Franklin said. "I'm still as fast, the last time I was timed I ran a 4.5."
Franklin led his Marion team to an 8-3 record last fall and into the second round of the state playoffs.
"I'm really looking forward to my senior season," Franklin said. "I plan on having my decision made and out of the way before school starts. I'm pretty sure where I'm going to end up."
