Thomas anxious to begin senior season

With the start of two-a-days just a few weeks away, West Orange Star star defensive back and current Longhorn commitment Earl Thomas is starting to get a little anxious.

Anxious to start his senior season. Anxious to return to school. Anxious to hit someone incredibly hard.

Yes, it's fair to say he's a pretty anxious individual right now.

"Yes, sir. I'm ready to play," Thomas said this weekend at the Texas State Seven-on-Seven Championships in College Station. "We just have one main goal and that's to get to state. Everybody is working hard in the weight room. They closed the weight room down for two weeks to give us a little rest, but soon as it opens, everyone is going to be right back where we left off. We should have a great season."

With the weight room closed to Thomas and his teammates for the time being, the weekend's action served as a good chance to wet their appetites for the competition that's soon to come.

Even after losing all three games in pool play on Friday, WOS made a strong run in the Consolation Bracket before eventually being eliminated by Katy Taylor in the semi-finals.

"It was a big accomplishment for us to get this far because nobody expected us to get here," Thomas said. "We were undefeated until (Friday)."

While Thomas has his focus firmly planted on helping lead his team to another shot at a state championship, there's also one large personal goal that he's set out for himself.

"I would like to play in the All-American game (in San Antonio)," Thomas said. "That's why I've been working hard. I saw how much fun Deon (Beasley) had in it last year and I want to see what it would feel like to be out there playing against a great group of guys. I'm just working hard to make myself and my teammates better."

Thomas also added that his constant conversations with Thomas have only solidified his early commitment to the Longhorns.

"I talked to him this morning," Thomas said. "He said it's great there and that the guys are showing him love. They treat you like you've been there forever, so I'm looking forward to getting up there."
