Colorado is hardly a major recruiting hot spot for Illinois, but it's where the Illini went to get its newest commitment. Denver Mullen quarterback Clint Brewster committed to Illinois back on July 13, picking the Illini over offers from Southern Miss and Washington State. The 6-foot-1, 187-pounder will follow in his father's footsteps. Tim Brewster, Clint's father, was a former all-Big Ten tight end and he's currently an assistant with the Denver Broncos. Brewster will continue to add quality depth at the quarterback spot, something that was sorely lacking when Ron Zook arrived in Champaign.

The Hoosiers are playing it smart when it comes to recruiting the state of Ohio. Indiana's working hard with some of the state's top talent producing programs, especially St. Edward High in Lakewood. Current Hoosiers Joe Kleinsmith and Ryan Marando are from St. Ed's and Indiana is working hard at attracting the attention of four-star safety Diauntae Morrow. While Indiana is in a dogfight to get him, the Hoosiers have been working him hard and he's noticed by listing Indiana as one of his top teams. "They have really been staying on me and giving me attention," Morrow said.

Iowa has had some tremendous success with its quarterback recruiting the past few seasons. After landing two very good signal-callers out of Ohio last season, the Hawkeyes landed the No. 5 player in Missouri and three-star quarterback Marvin McNutt out of Hazelwood (Mo.) Central. McNutt is a left-hander with a tremendous amount of upside. He's very mobile in the pocket, but he also has a very strong arm. While it might not be cannon strength, he's definitely got enough arm strength to impress. He turned down offers from Indiana, Kansas, Kansas State, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Wisconsin and many others.

Showing that Michigan still has enough teeth to bite into the national recruiting scene, the Wolverines went West again to land a commitment recently from the No. 3 player in Colorado. Denver Mullen tight end Steve Watson committed to the Wolverines back on July 11, picking UM over offers from Arizona, Arizona State, Cal, Colorado, Colorado State, Nebraska, Oklahoma State, UCLA and Washington. Watson is the son of Broncos receiver coach Steve Watson Sr. The elder Watson was a Pro Bowl wide receiver for the Broncos from 1979-87 amassing 353 receptions for 6,112 yards (17.3 avg.) with 36 touchdowns in his career.

Elite 11 organizers are excited to get a shot to work again with Michigan State quarterback commitment Keith Nichol. The prestigious quarterback camp is going on this week and Nichol is expected to have a great week. "He really impressed with his raw arm strength, accuracy and great feet and is the ideal quarterback for the spread attacks that incorporate a running QB," Elite 11 analyst Greg Biggins said about Nichol's performance at the regional camp workout Nichol had in Los Angeles. "We expect to see great things from him this week. He's the type of guy that should be a great fit at Michigan State. He should star."

Glen Mason and his staff know to win in the Big Ten you have to have the big guys up front. And there are few coaching staffs in the Big Ten, let alone the nation, that do a better job of spotting offensive linemen than the Minnesota coaches. So it's no surprise when you look at the Golden Gophers early commitment list and see four very-highly regarded line prospects on the list. Trey Davis and Ryan Orton are the two highest ranked in the bunch, both listed as three-stars that are rated as a 5.6 on the Rivals Rating Scale. Davis is the No. 4 player in Minnesota and Orton is at No. 6 in the state.

It continues to look like Northwestern has made the best out of a terribly tragic situation. When coach Randy Walker died suddenly, the Wildcats passed the torch on to Pat Fitzgerald. The move continues to review rave reviews from local observers. "To me, Pat Fitzgerald is Northwestern," Rivals.com Illinois expert Tim O'Halloran said. "In Chicagoland and to high school coaches, he is an absolute product of that school and that system. It's a great hire. He's a natural." Fitzgerald has hit the ground running with recruiting. While no commitments have come in, the staff continues to work hard and Northwestern is involved with numerous high-quality players.

The Bucks went to Pennsylvania to land their latest commitment, this time the pledge is from Monaca (Pa.) Center Area offensive guard Evan Blakenship. The three-star player picked Ohio State over offers from Pittsburgh and Temple and interest from Michigan and Notre Dame. "In the long run, considering everything, Ohio State was where his heart is," Blankenship's mother, Paula, said. Blankenship is ranked as the No. 25 player in Pennsylvania by Rivals.com. Early on, Blankenship made it clear that OSU was going to be tough to beat. "My dad's from East Liverpool, Ohio, and his brother is a big OSU fan," Blankenship said. "And my mom's aunt is from a town right outside Columbus, so they're huge OSU fans."

Greg Little is one of the nation's top pure athletes, and once he finds a natural fit at a position, he could be special. He's also looking for a natural fit in college and one of his top options is Penn State. He's set to visit Penn State unofficially in mid-August. He is also thinking about stopping off at USC, Notre Dame and Michigan, too. He was recently at Florida for an unofficial visit. "They fit right up there with the ones I'm considering," Little said about Penn State. "I could see them being a contender in the end."

The Boilermakers have a great tradition at quarterback, so when they offer a quarterback you have to step back and take a longer look at them. Purdue fell in love with Cedar Bluff, Ala., sleeper Jamie Hampton at their camp, and while he's not ranked yet, he could be one of the biggest steals in the South this season. At the recent Elite 11 regional workout in Las Vegas, Hampton was called a "super sleeper with tremendous upside" by quarterback guru Bob Johnson. At 6-2, 193 pounds, Hampton definitely has the physical tools and he's still learning how to be great. He's got a shot at being that, though, when he's done.

Lost in the shuffle of the great quarterbacks in Michigan this season, Macomb (Mich.) Dakota quarterback James Stallons kind of sailed under the radar under he committed to the Badgers. With four other quarterbacks heavily recruited in the state, it was easy to forget about Stallons. But the 6-foot-6, 180-pounder has the frame and the ability to grow as a talented quarterback. In his junior season, Stallons threw for 2,200 yards and 18 touchdowns. He's worked hard and those improvements attracted Wisconsin to offer early. It was an offer he didn't take long to snatch up.
