2006 Look Ahead: Colorado Buffaloes
OPPONENT 10: COLORADO BUFFALOES
Nov. 4 @Folsom Field, Boulder, Colo.
Returning Starters: 12 (5 offense, 6 defense, kicker)
2005 Record: 7-5
Coach: Dan Hawkins
Buff to Watch: Running back Hugh Charles (5-8, 285 Jr.)
Charles was one of the Big 12's biggest surprises a season ago, as he finished his sophomore year by racking up 842 yards, and the diminuative junior tailback should fit in nicely to what Hawkins likes to do on offense. Expect CU to feature Charles on the ground and in the passing game, where he's also a capable player as evidenced by the 26 receptions he hauled in a season ago.
Wildcat to Watch: Wide receiver Jermaine Moreira
Moreira has had an interesting career against the Buffaloes. Back in 2004 he was on the receiving end of a touchdown pass in the final minute that appeared destined to send K-State into overtime before a defensive collapse cost the Wildcats dearly. Last year in Manhattan it was Moreira who muffed a punt with just seconds remaining when K-State again appeared headed to overtime, and CU promptly put the Wildcats away with a field goal.
Instant Analysis: There are plenty of questions surrounding the Colorado Buffaloes and new head coach Dan Hawkins. Hawkins was extremely successful at Boise State and now gets to take over a program that has won four of the last five North Division title, but CU has to replace a ton of talent from a team that collapsed down the stretch in 2005.
