The Holiday Family: A great basketball tradition
Justin Holiday and Jrue Holiday are brothers who have grown up playing basketball together since they were small boys. Their father Sean was a member of one of the most famous Arizona State teams that featured both future NBA player, coach and commentator Byron Scott and Lafayette "Fat" Lever an NBA journeyman vet of 11 seasons. That Sun Devil team also featured, the year before Holiday, another NBA veteran, Center Alton Lister, who Seattle Sonics fans will recall came to town as part of the Jack Sikma trade with Milwaukee.
The most remarkable thing about the team, according to Mr. Holiday was, "that they never won anything". They competed hard and were always near the top of the conference, but somehow didn't reach the top of a league that at that time featured the still strong post-Wooden UCLA teams, Ralph Miller's Oregon State teams and Marv Harshman's Washington teams, which at that time featured a young point guard by the name of Lorenzo Romar and later a young gangly kid from Germany by the name of Detlef Schremph.
