Scott rises to the challenge

Desmond Scott, a sophomore tailback from Durham, N.C., Southern Durham, had a grand showing in his first outing of the 2006 season, rushing for well over 200 yards in leading his team to a 34-13 victory over High Point Central.


Scott's performance could be a harbinger of several huge games over his next three seasons of high school competition.


"The first game was really spectacular; he exceeded my expectations by far," said Scott's father, Tony. "To get 242 yards on 16 carries; that's just outstanding. So yeah, he exceeded my expectations."


"He told some people before the game, 'I'm going to try to get 300 yards,'" Mr. Scott added. "When he sets his mind to something, he works really, really hard to get it, and he came pretty close."
