Blankenship ready for senior season
The season kicked off for several future Buckeyes this past week but the season gets underway on Friday for Monaca (Pa.) offensive guard Evan Blankenship.
The 6-foot-3, 310-pounder has some very definite goals for not only himself as a player but his team for his senior campaign.
(We) just trying to make the playoffs and a championship," Blankenship said. "We made the playoffs last year and lost in the first round. I just want us to get further into the playoffs and a better record and do the best that I can."
When it comes to his individual goals he is looking looking to pick up a new offense at Center Area high school.
"I don't want to mess up that much. We just put a new offense in and I am trying to pick it up and I don't want to make any mistakes during the game. I want to block in the 90's and 100 percent range. As long as we come out of the first week with a W I will be happy."
Blankenship is enjoying the new notariety that offensive linemen have been receiving by more college football fans.
"They know how important offensive linemen are on a team, they just dont get the recognition," he said. "People are starting to give that recognition. Both offensive and defensive linemen are very important to the game."
Blankenship has not talked to coaches about his official visit yet, but he has been looking at making it to Columbus for a couple of games this season. Will the big offensive lineman try and bring more players from Pennslyvania with him to Ohio?
"I am going to be trying, going to try and get to a couple games and talking to a couple players and get them to look to Ohio State."
As excited as Blankenship is about the upcoming season for his high school team, he is equally excited about the Buckeyes opening the season as the number one team.
"I think it is great and I am really excited for them and hopefully when I am there the same thing can happen to and we can win a national championship."
