Looking for a few good men

With the offensive starters set, it's time to look at the top 11 on Texas A&M's defense, and it isn't as easy as one would think coming off a dismal 2005 season.

The Aggie coaching staff has had a hard time coming up with the top 11 players in defense, but that is because a number of players have stepped up to challenge for those starting spots.

Defensive End

Juniors Chris Harrington and Jason Jack figure to be the opening day starters once again in 2006, but things could change as sophomore Michael Bennett comes back from off-season knee surgery.

Bennett proved in 2005 that he has the potential to blossom into a star along the A&M defensive line.

Sophomores Cyril Obiozor and Chris Smith have also had impressive August training camps and should find their way into the rotation. Sophomore Amos Gbunblee moved to end from tight end this summer and has shown enough to keep the experiment going, and he may just find a new permanent home.

Defensive Tackle

It's no surprise as junior Red Bryant will start once again at tackle, but the other spot has been up for grabs. Senior Bryce Reed earned the job with an impressive spring and has kept anyone else from taking over the starting reigns.

Redshirt freshman Kellen Heard has had an impressive camp and will be in the rotations along with junior Henry Smith and senior Marques Thornton.
