Erker's unlikely path leads to starting role

We wanted to know how rare it was for a walk-on at Kansas State to earn a scholarship and a starting position in the same week. What were the odds? And had it been done prior to Andrew Erker on Tuesday afternoon going from fielding the question - "Did you suit up last year?" - to -- "Is this the best week of your life?" So we phoned Jon McGraw.

McGraw went to the NFL in 2001. But this wasn't a stretch. McGraw went to Riley High School and had been around K-State since he was in diapers. How rare was it to be in Erker's Nikes? McGraw might know. If nothing else, he would certainly enjoy knowing Erker took something away from the mini-charge speech he delivered to the Wildcats one winter day in 2004.

No luck. McGraw is in training camp with the Detroit Lions. He was busy late Tuesday night.
