Old School, New School
It has been 24 years since Idaho head coach Dennis Erickson had to face the Washington State football team as the Vandal head coach. The year was 1982 and the cultural landmarks were stingy. The Argentines were scuffling with the British over a few scabs of land occupied by sheep called the Falklands, John Cougar was still calling himself that, Friday the 13th was only on its third sequel and people were "pitying the fools" who didn't watch the A-Team. Erickson, meanwhile, was in his first year as the head coach at Idaho and his very first - and so far, only, game against WSU - wound up being a relatively nondescript 34-14 loss to Jim Walden's Cougs who would finish 3-7-1 that year [although with a memorable upset win over the rival Huskies in that year's Apple Cup]. That is the end of Erickson's historical data as the Vandal coach against WSU. The bottom line - as he is fond of saying - 0-1.
