White quits the team

James Cox started the Buffaloes' season opener and Bernard Jackson was the primary quarterback behind center in Saturday's game against Colorado State. Some were beginning to wonder if Brian White would get a chance to start against Arizona State.

Apparently that will not even be an option for head coach Dan Hawkins and offensive coordinator Mark Helfrich. The junior gunslinger has left the team.

"He quit today," Coach Hawkins said of White. "He gave no indication of where he is going. He just told me that he was hanging it up."

The front runner to win the starting quarterback job during spring ball and early on during preseason camp, White recently fell to third on the depth chart. White was known to have the best arm on the team but Cox did a better job of grasping the new offense and Jackson's athleticism adds another dimension to the offense.
