Fili 'definitely' has plans to visit ASU again

It has been just over a month and a half since we last spoke with Salt Lake City (Utah) Cottonwood High School defensive tackle Simi Fili. Fili spoke very highly of ASU after an unofficial visit in August.

The 6-foot-2, 339 pound Fili's senior football season is in full swing, so how does he feel about his team's performance so far?

"We're doing wonderful," said Fili. "We lost our opening and second game, but after that we've started to pick it up. We have a lot of young guys on our team so it took us a while to really get our feet set."

I'm the only starter from last season on the team so I felt kind of lonely for a while, but we're starting to pick it up. In our first game I was fortunate enough to get an interception and a fumble recovery. I returned them both for a couple of yards. My senior year is going terrific and it couldn't be better."

Fili's concentration this season is on the overall team's performance and he said that he hasn't been keeping track of his own stats.

Fili has mentioned having favorites in the past, where does he stand now?

"To be honest I have favorites here and there, but truthfully everybody is the same with me," Fili said. "I'll even try to get favorites narrowed down but it hasn't been easy. I know Arizona State, Oklahoma State, and Tennessee are up there but I don't have a true top five or anything."

The Sun Devils are certainly right in the middle of things with Fili, and it sounds like the interest has been reciprocated.

"I've still had contact with ASU's head coach (Dirk Koetter)," Fili said. "I still hear from my position coach, Coach Stretz also. I've also talked to some of Arizona State's players and also some of the other recruits that are being recruited by Arizona State. I've been talking to them all."

One of the most important aspects of the recruiting cycle for coaching staffs and prospects is official visits. In some cases, the official visit can be the determining factor for a prospect choosing one school over another. Does Fili have any scheduled?

"I'm looking around seeing what dates I have open," Fili said. "I have some that I know that I want to line up and there are others that I am not sure of yet. I'm definitely going to take one to Arizona State. There are one or two others that I want to take, but I don't know of all five yet. I'll figure the rest out some day."
