Tide defense faces improved UT attack
Last season's 6-3 victory over the Tennessee Vols was a season-defining moment for the Crimson Tide defense, a statement game that announced to the SEC that despite the Tide's offensive woes, Joe Kines' defense could carry Alabama to victory.
Things have certainly changed since a year ago and now heading into the mythical "Third Saturday in October" both Alabama and Tennessee have seen their offenses explode and in some cases carry the load for their struggling defenses.
"These guys are one of the best football teams we've seen on tape in years," Kines said of the Vols' offense. "They've got all the ingredients right now. They've got an offensive line that is really playing good. They're in synch, playing sharp, blocking well. They really do a great job up front, that's probably been the trademark of Tennessee for years and years."
"Their tailbacks are really carrying the ball well and running both the power and zone good, which helps them mix up the offense."
Though the Vols have found success on the ground this season, it's the passing game where the Tennessee offense has truly stepped up to the next level.
