Arizona Basketball Notebook: Williams injured
With Arizona's Red/Blue Scrimmage tonight at 7:00pm MST, we have several notes on the basketball program heading into the game. From an injury to Arizona's star small forward to notes from practice, here's the latest surrounding information on the UA basketball team.
Marcus Williams out with sprained ankle
Arizona sophomore Marcus Williams sprained his right ankle in practice on Tuesday, drawing concern among UA fans as the word got out about the injury. Rumors flared all Wednesday about Williams' ankle, with some saying the forward could miss up to two months.
Fortunately for Arizona, the extent of the injury appears to be greatly exaggerated.
Both x-rays of Williams ankle have come out negative and according to assistant Josh Pastner, he shouldn't miss too much time.
"It's just a light sprain," Pastner said. "It's nothing to be concerned about. He won't miss any games."
Williams walked around campus on Wednesday in a leg boot and crutches, appearing to heavily favor his healthy foot. Watching Williams struggle to leave McKale Center on Wednesday, it's obvious why there was so much concern over his injury, but it's not expected to be a lingering problem.
"He'll be fine," Pastner said. "It's just a sprain, it's nothing serious."
Williams will sit out tonight's Red/Blue game. We'll have an update on his progress next week.
