D.J. Augustin: 'Were ready to start'

The Longhorn freshman basketball class is regarded as one of the top groups in all of college basketball, and the young guys will be key in determining just how successful Texas is this season. Kevin Durant is the name that everyone knows, but many people feel that point guard D.J. Augustin may actually play the most important role of all of the freshmen.

We were able to talk to Augustin recently to get his thoughts on the upcoming season and the challenges that he and the Horns will face.

On the young guys on the team:

We're just trying to learn and get better.

On the possibility of Texas running an up-tempo attack:

The coaches have me watching Steve Nash. I'm trying to model my game after him a little bit. But I'm not really trying to be anybody. I'm just trying to play my game and just pick up pieces here and there.

On what the strength of his game is at this point:

Passing. Sometimes I can see things that other people can't see, get them open and get them good shots.

On how comfortable the team is running with the ball:

At practice, pushing the ball, conditioning with coach Todd (Wright), just trying to get in condition so we can push the ball and run. That's what coach wants us to do. Hopefully nobody can stay with us on the fast break and we won't have to rely on the slowdown game.
