Several Hawks talk before practice

Darrell Arthur appeared from the locker room before Tuesdays practice with a wrap covering his right-hand. Shortly thereafter, Sasha Kaun walked out with a brace covering his right leg. Darnell Jackson also emerged from the locker room in-order to spend a few minutes with the media. The No. 3 ranked Kansas Jayhawks open up exhibition play against the Washburn on Thursday night. Jayhawk Slant spoke to Arthur, Kaun, Jackson and others before Thursdays practice.

"Well, my role doesn't change at all," said Jackson. "I'm still going to have to do what I do when I am on the court. I am just going to have to bring a more presence, like Sasha Kaun did on the court."

With Kaun out 3-to-6 weeks due to a partially torn patella tendon, and with C.J. Giles not a member of the team at this time, there is no doubt that Jackson's role will change to a degree.

Jackson is the type of player that brings a lot of energy and enthusiasm to the game, and has been a real spark off the bench throughout his career. However, with Kaun and Giles out of the mix, don't be surprised if Jackson takes on a starting role.

Before Tuesdays practice, many believed that Arthur, the 6-foot-9, 220-pound forward from Dallas, Texas, would start against Washburn, but that doesn't appear to be the case. Arthur expects to play a lot of minutes, but as it stands right now, it doesn't sound like he will start.
