Great opportunity for Jordan Hill
When Kirk Walters committed to Arizona as a senior out of Grand Rapids (Mich.), he was expected to come in, redshirt, and compete against players such as Channing Frye, Isaiah Fox and Ndudi Ebi in practice for a year before playing as a freshman in the 2004-05 season.
Walters was seen as a project in high school and it was clear then - as it still is now - that he needed a year of practice to develop his skills to the point that he could consistently play well at the Pac-10 level.
Unfortunately for both Walters and Arizona, Ebi broke several promises to the UA coaching staff and went straight to the NBA out of high school. That left Frye and Fox in the lineup and meant that Walters had to play as a true freshman.
26 minutes into Fox's junior season, he tore a ligament in his knee, sidelining him for the year. Suddenly, Walters had to be counted on and those unfortunate turn of events have negatively impacted his UA career.
