Notebook: Groves big part of Auburn win
Auburn DE Quentin Groves has had many sacks during his three years on the Plains, enough to be No. 2 on the all-time sack list. But arguably none were bigger than the two he registered Saturday against Alabama.
Groves sacked Tide QB John Parker Wilson twice in the second quarter, forced a fumble both times, which ultimately led to 14 points by the Tigers and a 22-15 win in the Iron Bowl.
Groves finished the game with seven total tackles, four solos, the two sacks and two forced fumbles and a quarterback-hurry.
Alabama right tackle Chris Capps, who was eventually replaced by Kyle Tatum, never had a chance.
"I knew during the week, I watched film, and knew they give away their pass reads," said Groves. "I got a good jump. On those two plays, I knew it was a pass because (Capps) was so light in his stance, and I knew I could beat him to the edge.
"I timed the snap count, and I knew I could beat them off the ball."
