Jones knows baseball
Baton Rouge (La.) Southern Lab safety Chad Jones can make big hits in two sports.
The five-star safety had 120 tackles and 12 interceptions this season, scoring six times on defense. While he spends fall crushing ball carriers, Jones spends spring crushing baseballs.
At 6-foot-2, 220-pounds, he is arguably the state's best Major League Baseball prospect.
After finishing 25-33 in 2006, USC's baseball team found a strong recruiting ally in Pete Carroll. However, selling Jones on playing football at USC is a pitch he won't swing at.
According to Jones, his potential on the diamond outweighs any promises of playing time on the gridiron.
