Stafford ready for first trip
Austin Stafford has been high on Nebraska and San Diego State since both programs extended a scholarship offer last summer.
The 6-foot-2, 200-pound outside linebacker from Hayward (Calif.) High recently picked up his third offer from Utah.
"I have my first official visit lined up to Nebraska," he explained. "I plan to take that this upcoming weekend on the 15th. I don't have any expectations going in. I just want to go on the trip to see what the facilities are like and see what the school is like."
Has Stafford talked about setting up trips with the Aztecs or Utes? "I have but it would probably have to be in January," he said. "I don't really know though."
Ranked the nation's 24th best outside linebacker from the Class of 2007, Stafford helped lead Hayward to a 12-2 record this fall.
He tallied 83 tackles, 10 sacks and earned first-team all-league honors as a junior.
"At the high school level I was bigger than most other players," Stafford expressed. "At the college level, I think my speed and ability to react to the ball will help me make plays."
At the Palo Alto NIKE Training Camp last May, Stafford compiled a 77.9 SPARQ rating. He tested out with a 4.76-laser timed forty, 4.65-shuttle, 33.5-inch vertical and did 22 reps on the bench press.
