A&M opens Big 12 play with Kansas State

The No. 11 Texas A&M men's basketball team will open Big 12 conference play Saturday at 7 p.m. at Reed Arena when they host Kansas State. This conference season the Aggies have a much different realistic goal than in season's past - winning a conference championship.

The way A&M is currently playing, that goal is something that could very well happen. Holding the home court advantage, however, is key to being in position for title at the end of the 16-game slate.

Kansas State, however, is an intriguing team for A&M to open up with. Head coach Bob Huggins perfected building programs into winners while A&M head coach Billy Gillispie, the current premiere program builder in the country, was still plying his trade in Texas high school gyms.

Huggins' team is probably still a year away from contending in the Big 12, but a win over A&M on the road to open conference play would go a long way in getting K-State ahead of schedule.
