Tar Heel Prep Basketball Update
One of UNC's biggest targets in the Class of 2008, Delvon Roe, has enjoyed a stellar junior season at Lakewood (OH) St. Edward, leading the Eagles to a perfect 20-0 record heading into the state playoffs. Roe has averaged better than 20 points and nine rebounds per game.
The Eagles, who enter the Friday night's first round playoff game as the No. 1 team in the state of Ohio in both the Division I and Cleveland Plain-Dealer rankings, currently hold the No. 8 spot in the USA Today national high school poll.
In impressive fashion, the Eagles have beaten their opponents by an average margin of 28.1 points per game this season, and just two of their victories have been by single digits.
Another top UNC target in the 2008 class, Samardo Samuels of Newark (N.J.) St. Benedict's, led his team to an equally dominant season, as the Gray Bees posted a 24-1 overall record. They currently hold the No. 5 spot in the USA Today poll.
Samuels' finished the season with a 22-point effort in leading St. Benedict's to a 69-55 victory over Eastside High School.
