Self: I'm excited to be in Chicago
Bill Self and his Kansas Jayhawks (30-4, 14-2) landed the top seed in the West region after an 11-game winning streak, including two wins over Texas to capture the conference championship, as well as the conference tournament championship. With the No. 1 seed, KU will play their opening weekend of the NCAA tournament at the United Center in Chicago, Ill. Between his time at the University of Illinois, and his yearly recruiting in the Chicago area, Self is glad to be playing in familiar territory for KU's opening round match up with the Niagara Purple Eagles (23-11, 13-5).
As Self took the stand in front of a slew of media members Thursday afternoon, it was obvious he knew what was coming. Although the fourth-year Jayhawk coach would have to field questions regarding the past two NCAA tournaments, his enthusiasm to be in Chicago, a familiar stomping ground, seemed to have KU's head man focused.
