Competition breeds success

Last week Kent State strength and conditioning coach Toby Jacobi tested the football team in 10 different speed and strength exercises. He was shocked by the results, especially related to the increases in speed displayed by many of the Golden Flashes.

But, success in the weight room is only a part of his long-term plan. He knows that to achieve the desired results, he's going to have to keep the players focused on their training and hungry to reach new levels.

To help that process, Jacobi, with the help of head coach Doug Martin, created a competition to reward players for their success.

"What we do here, I want to breed constant competition with our players," said Jacobi.

"I want them chomping at the bit every single day they come in the weight room to compete because in the game of football you are competing."
