Walkup ready to play for Aggies

Deer Park forward Nathan Walkup was one of the first commitments in the Texas A&M class of 2007. When he signed his National Letter-of-Intent last November, Walkup had no idea that he would be playing for a different head coach than the one that recruited him to College Station.

With Billy Gillispie's departure to take the same position at the University of Kentucky, the Aggie program found itself in the midst of a national coaching search. In the end, A&M hired it's first choice in Mark Turgeon. However, throughout it all, Walkup says his intention to play for the Aggies never wavered.

Even though Walkup had no intention of asking for a release from A&M, the coaching staff still made it a priority to visit the 6-foot-6 star. He came away very impressed after the meeting.
