Spiece Run 'N Slam - Day 1
It was a tale of two halves for Eshaunte Jones. The Fort Wayne North
guard was scoreless in the first half for his Blessed IJN Elite team and the
squad only scored nine points in the half, trailing 30-9 to the Illinois Wolves.
Then Jones caught fire, hitting five second half treys and 21 points overall to
help Blessed IJN storm back and eventually go on to a 68-55 victory.
Former IU target Nick Fruendt did not play well but it was the quickness of the
Fort Wayne team that did in the usually tough Wolves squad.
Some of the surprise attendees here in Fort Wayne are guard Willie Warren,
the nation's #13 guard and a player who has mentioned Indiana of late. The
problem is his list of schools is one of longer ones out there. The Fort
Worth native is here playing for Team Texas Elite. We had him for 13
points at the half in a game that Team Texas would eventually win. A
surprise team here features a trio of former IU targets. The Reebok
All-Stars is a collection of top 100 talent that are playing together for the
first time here in preparation for an upcoming overseas trip. The former
IU targets are 6-foot-11 center Philip Jurick, point guard Isaiah Thomas and
6-foot-11 center Kenny Frease. Big Ten targets Darius Miller and William
Buford are also on the team but talent can only take you so far as the Reebok
team lost tonight to Mean Streets, 63-60. Michael Dunigan from Chicago
Farragut looked terrific for Mean Streets. His recruiting story is a
mystery to this point so stay tuned.
We caught a half of Stan Simpson's first pool game here and the Chicago Leo
power forward did not disappoint. He had around a dozen points and four or
five blocks. Must be pointed out that this came against a team that had no
player on their roster over 6-foot-4.
