Where things stand: Defense
This week we will attempt to give you an overview of what Texas Tech has on their hands already in the 2008 class and what they need to finish off the class.
We gave you an overview of the offense on Monday, so today we'll tackle the other side of the ball. Five of Tech's seven pledges thus far are on the defensive side of the ball. That in and of itself should serve as an indication that Mike Leach is not the same football coach or administrator he was when he arrived in Lubbock. For whatever, it has always seemed like the defensive side of the ball was of secondary importance, but lately, Leach's classes have featured some great defensive prospects, and this class should be no different.
WHO'S ALREADY IN THE FOLD: (HS) DL Joey Fowler, DE Ryan Haliburton, S Cody Davis; (JUCO) S Jocques Crawford, CB Jarell Routt
WHAT THEY NEED: 2 DT's, 2 LB's, 1 CB
CURRENT COMMITS: Tech started its defensive class somewhat quietly, with a commitment from Joey Fowler, who, at the time, was a little known prospect. Tech then followed by picking up local standout Ryan Haliburton. Since their commitments, both have seen their stock skyrocket and both now hold their fair share of offers. In securing Fowler and Haliburton, Tech grabbed two players who have great frames and great motors, and in doing so, put the defensive end spot in good hands for years to come.
