Countdown: Key Wolverine No. 18

The staff has voted upon, selected and ranked the top 25 Michigan football players most essential to a winning effort in 2007. We continue the countdown of the top 25 in reverse order, moving on to No. 18.

At the start of last season, most of the recruiting hype and consequent fan expectation centered on freshman back Carlos Brown. Classmate Brandon Minor certainly carried talent with him out of Virginia, yet an injury in his senior season at Varina High School and Brown's surprise commitment shifted much of the attention elsewhere.

Yet by the end of the year, Minor had not only proven himself the most college football-ready tailback in the class, he'd passed up Kevin Grady for the No. 2 spot behind starter Mike Hart. With Grady likely sidelined all or most of this season due to a knee injury, Minor becomes that much more important to Michigan's fortunes, and takes the No. 18 slot in the continuing countdown of key Wolverines.
