Hoops notes: schedule nearly finished

One of Frank Martin's key summer tasks has been completed, and another is nearing that same status. Kansas State's head men's basketball coach recently filled his staff with the addition of former South Alabama assistant Matt Figger, and next on Martin's agenda is completing the Wildcats' 2007-08 schedule, something he hoped to have announced this week.

"We're close. We're close," Martin said. "We have one game we still have to schedule. We're actually in negotiations with a couple of folks. I was hoping it would get released this week, but I think it might drag another week or so. It's something that we're getting ready to put a close on."

Without giving any specifics about who's on that schedule, Martin says its one that will meet the goals of the program.

"It's a hard schedule. You've got some big names, high level games and home games. What we're going to do, and will continue to do as long as we're under my watch, is play away games against national level competition that either have national television opportunities or get one of our recruits home," he said. "Those are the kind of games we're all over.

"Our home schedule we want to be competitive games that are good, solid games to improve our RPI and to prepare our team to improve."
