Panhandle star claims Tide offer

Speed kills - and possessing top-tier strength doesn't hurt either. For one Panhandle star linebacker, having both qualities have catapulted him up the recruiting board for a number of elite Division I programs - including the University of Alabama.

"Alabama offered me during the spring," said Blountstown (Fl.) linebacker Ryan Baker. "Coach (Kirby) Smart is recruiting me for them, and he is straight-up dude. He is real cool."

Baker has an impressive resume, earning All-State and All-Region honors a year ago and finishing as a finalist for Mr. Football in Class 2B. With offers from Auburn, Arkansas, Clemson, Florida and most recently, LSU, schools around the southeast are beginning to take notice.
